“So much potential remains untapped”
Since her appointment in July 2014 last year, Emma Watson, British actress turned UN Women Goodwill Ambassador – has encouraged a new audience to break down the barriers prohibiting gender-equality.
Fierce Watson is back, building on the success of the headline-hitting speech that she made last September at the launch of #HeForShe – the UN initiative that aims to involve men in the discussion surrounding gender equality.
The actress has spoken out about the overwhelming responses she’s had since her speech.
Today, Watson has taken her gender-equality campaign to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
As I say, this speech comes after the huge, global success of her HeForShe hair-raising and emotional plea last year.
But now, the incredibly powerful woman launches the “next phase” of the campaign – HeForShe’s IMPACT 10X10X10.
A project she hopes will bring an end to the persisting inequalities faced by women and girls globally.
Watson says “It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments, and in our work places.” And from responses so far, it seems many can’t help but agree.
Ever the wise one though, Watson also admits that despite “…tapping into what the world wants: to be a part of change. Now we have to channel that energy into purposeful action.”
I’ve been fortunate enough to have met this incredible woman, albeit in very different circumstances – for a fleeting interview on the red carpet last year.
She was kind, generous and held an aura about her being. It is no surprise that this smart individual has evolved into a successful intelligent woman, who is an inspiration to so many young men and women across the globe.
Keep up the sensational work Emma. We know you will.
